...ordinary life...
I am reading the most amazing book. "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. She is my new hero. The book is full of all these little gems of stories with rhyme and reason, but not really linear. It is formatted like an encyclopedia done alphabetically, and I am torn between devouring the book and trying to give myself these little illustrated stories of life as prizes for the day. Many of the stories have "see also", so you can keep reading, hence my problem. Her story under "Happiness" leads you to "Tuesday Night" then above that is "Travel" and that can lead you to "Other People" or "Returning from Journey"...SEE! Everything about the book is great, even the jacket cover is super clever and there is a reader's agreement which is hilarious. Amy is clever, so very very clever. (I am using her first name as if I know her, which I don't at all!) Around the time the book was published she was leaving books in the towns where she was having readings. (There is a little video on her website showing her leaving books in all these ingenious places.) It is such a cool thing to do, sweet and clever! I had day dreams where I found one of the books she left, but then I realized that I really didn't want to wait and hope that I might find one, so I went out and bought the book! I think it is going to be my gift of choice for awhile. Hope everyone doesn't mind.

...bloomers...

An "Alice in Wonderland" version of bloomers. I am not very good at flowers. I did a quick watercolor before the next topic for Illustration Friday.

...mohawks...
The other day my dad emailed me a photo of my little brothers with mohawks. They are all grown up.
I know the other day I said I couldn't imagine living anywhere other than New York City, but I have missed them growing up. Now I can't wait to see what they will continue to become. And I smile!

...named her Trixie...
I figured it out, I have been trying to get my entries to post, and it was an easy fix, publish! I can't believe how complicated I can make things. Arg.
Recently the Boy and I got a cat, and named her Trixie. Now I am not a cat person, pretty much a dog person, but she was abandoned in my building. The evil owners put her in a box, taped her up and on the night of a huge storm left her in the entry to our building. I cannot begin to imagine how someone could up and leave anything so young. How can you just decide that you are tired of this "thing", and miss out on this precious creature. I am really glad that she came into our lives. She is beautiful and as soon as I figure out how to post a photo I will.

...ashes and snow...
Last night my husband, the Boy and I went on a date, something we haven't done in a while..it was amazing. It was my date to plan. I must say that I did a great job. It was one of those things that was amazing and I wouldn't change living in New York for the world. "ashes and snow", is traveling with the nomadic museum, housed along a pier with shipping crates. The space is long and tall and you walk in along wooden planks with rocks underneath. The photos by Gregory Colbert are printed on iris paper and hang from the ceiling. But the walls are at least six crates high. It was like being in a church or temple. ...so it begins...
I feel like I am coming into my own, artistically I mean. I have found a style that is mine and I have created my alter ego, the green girl. I know art is always changing, but I think I am ready to live in this skin for a while. Explore it and see where it takes me. Hence the new site...an art site. Somewhere in the deep feelings of my childhood I stopped trying to draw. Someone must have made a comment or remark, but I sort of decided that I couldn't draw and I tried really hard not to. I went down a scientific path and started college studying biology. After the first day I knew that wasn't a good fit. (There is a really funny story that I'll tell sometime.) I spent the next couple of years trying to figure myself out and settled on photography. I loved it. Looking back I think I always envied the designers in our department...but now after graduating and moving to nyc I think I found where I am going to grow from now and I am really excited! I hope you'll come along and look around.
