...let sleep fall on me...
The Boy and I have different sleep patterns. And he usually comes and tucks me in bed after I fall asleep reading a book. I love that time. When sleep has come and I sort of dream him coming to kiss me goodnight.
But tonight I have insomnia and I was wondering what people out there in the web world do. I am going to do some sketching, but any tricks....

insomnia! i loved reading this and knowing you were up last night at 2am. i don't wake up often but when i do i read or watch a film... to get back to sleep i always just lay there and concentrate on listening to my breath. and i remember something my mom always told me {i was one of those kids who didn't want to go to bed so i would wander around the house and try to get into my parents bed to snuggle every night}... she always said, "just get in bed and rest. you don't have to fall asleep, just rest there." and when i did get in and rest of course i would fall asleep! :)
maybe one of these nights we'll both be up and we can have a good chatter?

hmmm... what works for me?
the breathing thing that mav mentioned... you can also try and relax every part of your body bit by bit... kind of chant to yourself... my right foot is relaxed.... and try and make it that way. i'm usually asleep by the time i make it to my arm....
also - valerian root works well as a natural sleep aid. take it about an hour before you want to fall asleep. for me it makes it so that when i do wake up i am kind of foggy and just roll over and sleep again. be sure that you have a good 7 hours, though b/c it can be hard to get up! :)
sometimes, though, you just have to give up. and don't stress about it... i think it gets worse when you get worried about the fact that you aren't sleeping, you know??

i'm sorry you couldn't sleep. i know that can be no fun whatsoever. o was in atlanta for work yesterday and today and i never sleep while he is gone. like lisa said, valerian root works pretty well, melatonin is ok too... but i get fuzzy with that. if worst comes to worst, i'll fall asleep with the tv on... there are some pretty crazy reality shows on late at night. last night around midnight on abc family, beautiful people was on... i think i remember you blogging about that once... anyway, i hope that you sleep good tonight!! :)
