...abby-normal...

It was a fun mail time for me. I ordered some of abby normal's new designs. I love Lisa's stuff.
I bought a bag, I love how her bags have lining (you can kind of see the gingham coming through the bag in the photo).
I bought a t-shirt and some of her holiday cards. Love those and the work that went into making them is crazy!!
She is a mighty talented lady and because she is my friend I got a couple of prizes! Some gum that smells so delicious I almost can't stand it. A couple of her pins - I am an evildoer!!
Lisa has great little details, like a cloud cut out on her business card and the envelope of her note card.
Sweet and lovely.
Thank you thank you!!

I love her beautiful personal note cards made by mav! If you look close you can see the green lisa shinning through.
Can't wait to get some of my own.
Love the ribbon that my little package was wrapped in. Green of course.

...warm little hat and a bag of goodies...

I did a trade with the talented Tiffany. I made her Harvey and she made me a beautiful winter hat.

Look how perfect the hat matches the painting behind me. I couldn't have gotten better colors if I picked them myself!! She also went to a Japanese dollar store before she mailed off my package, so I got a million great treats. Well not a million, but such perfect things. An new journal (I am three pages away from finishing my current one), and a brush pen (love brush pens). Eyes for robots (I already have plans for a pair) a cute little key chain and candy. That is gone. LOve anything chocolate and chocolate with maple syrup, heaven. And some pretty origami paper. She didn't forget Trixie who got fun springs that she wanted to get into right away. Look at her. It is like she knows they are for her!

I have some big news. The Boy finally got this big gig that was supposed to happen ages ago. He did the sound design on a video game trailer months ago (in time for some fancy conference) and there was talk at the time they'd get hired to do the full game. Then the talk got more plausible. Then the talk turned into dates. The original date was at the beginning of October. Then near the end of October. Then the beginning of November. Then the end of November and just when I thought that would go on for ages - wham it happened. On Thanksgiving. So much to be thankful for (except that little part where he had to work on thanksgiving - those brits are still a little angry about the tea party?) No really the company creating the game is in England. Good thing I can make a mean mashed potatoes. We had a really delicious time, because the Boy is a fabulous cook. We did the happy dance and busted out the champagne (after he was done for the day because drinking changes your ability to hear correctly).

...lovely bookswap...

I did a bookswap hosted by Cara. My partner was the amazingly big hearted Alisha. I am lucky to have met these two lovely ladies through the internet. They are fabulous women.
Our assignment was kids books and I got some Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. Which is wonderful and surprising since I never read any of the books or even heard of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. I can't wait to tuck into the books since I got three!! So exciting.
In my box I also got some moonpies that are already open and Creole seasoning in a h u g e shaker. The Boy's eyes almost popped out. He loves any sort of 'themed' seasoning. Thank you thank you!!

...a painting & a peep...

Camilla started Peeping Friday and I wanted to play. This week you were supposed to take a peep into your fridge.
One good thing is that my fridge is full since yesterday was Thanksgiving. The Boy and I usually look more like bachelors. But check out the reachable-ness of

A quick little painting on some cardboard from the studio. It was fun just to slap the paint down. I think it needs something else. Maybe another color?
**the boy thinks she looks a little like a street urchin**

...happy thanksgiving...

trixie: "when do you think the turkey will be ready?"
wendy: "trix, you don't get any turkey"

trixie: "WHAT?!!"
wendy: "well we're not cooking a big turkey"

trixie: "well, I think I am mad at you then."
wendy: "come on trix, we're both going to be here all day though, which means unlimited scratches"

trixie: "scratches?!!"

...hanner show...

On Saturday the Boy and I went to see Hanner. I think we have seen most of her shows, but she just keeps getting better and better. The show was at Pete's Candy store (a candy store turned bar in Williamsburg) and the music area is marvelous. Small and intimate, the perfect way to watch Hanner. There was great golden light (not so great for photos) but great for painting-like photos. It was amazing. If you ever get the chance to see her, jump at it!!
Hanner is also know as Johanna. She is quite amazing. Case in point her talent on the ukulele and a second show at Last Exit (all in one crazy busy weekend).

...painting for friday #11 1/2...

I am going for a more elaborate painting this week, so it will be a two parter. I have a rough base down and my charcoal drawing to lay in the groundwork. (lisa will this work for the group if I don't get another charcoal drawing done?)
Advice? Comments? Can you see the charcoal?
On a completely different note, anyone know how I can get really really rich so I can stay at the Ice Hotel?
It is so BEAUTIFUL.
I love the idea of building a hotel that goes back to the earth - or rather the ice. Building it every year. Bringing in artists to do amazing art in the rooms. Having to sleep in special sleeping bags. Getting off the plane and getting a taxi of sled dogs. I love sled dogs. I know totally horrible movie, but you know I am going to see it, probably on netflix but it looks like something right up my alley. I have a soft spot for sappy girly movies and feel good animal movies. I don't know what it is and the Boy wishes he knew so he could put a stop to it. Actually he is a great sport about it, but we have to have two different netflix queues!!
How many people are going to see Harry Potter this weekend?
But really any ideas on how I can get the cash to stay at the hotel?
SO So beautiful.

...bring your pet to blog #7...

I love p2p's post. Finding all her blogger friends paying attention to what makes them happiest and where they find inspiration. It is quite impressive and lovely.
A huge inspiration to me is Johanna. She is so crazy talented I almost can't stand it. Her
Above is the always playful Trixie and the Boy makes his first appearance after a bit on arm-twisting.

...some advice from you webkids...
Alright, I am getting ready to work on my next robot creation (going to try for at least one a week) but I have tons of red. Is there a red creature that you all would like to see as a robot? Birds? Creatures? Simply a Robot? Anything? Nothing?
Also for all those people that don't sleep, do have a metallic taste in your mouth (yes I brushed my teeth)? Sort of another physical reminder me that I am so very tired durning the day. But then sleep and I play the same game at night. Never to be found my friend sleep.

...the sister...
One of my favorite stories is from childhood is about my younger brother. (a little back-story – my parents are divorced)
So the family was driving around in the car. It was my Dad, my two younger brothers and myself. Rusty, the youngest, was trying to figure out where I fit in the family, since I wasn’t around all the time. He had met my mom, so he understood that we had different mothers, but he was confused about my dad. I guess he figured I was just dadless, since he had never met the man.
He asked in all innocence, “Who’s your dad?”
I in my snappy teenage way (we are eleven years apart) replied, “We have the same dad.”
(I am sure I put a little dig in there because although I was older by many many years, I still was a brat to my brothers.)
And then there in sued an argument back and forth.
No he’s my dad.
No, he’s not, he’s my dad
Over and over until finally I said, “Let’s ask dad.” (who was driving at the time)
So Rusty said, "Dad are you Wendy’s dad too?"
Dad replied “Yes”
And then asked who he thought I was then? (all dad-less and stuff)
And Rusty in all is wisdom said, “You’re just the sister.”
Love both my brothers with all my heart. More than I had imagined.

...wondering in the city...

I totally traipsed around the city on Saturday and finally had my Lisa day. After going in and out of galleries all day I realized that I like my art comfortable and galleries are sort of cold. I feel really intimidated when I am there. Like they know that I couldn't afford anything in the place.
But I loved Jonathan LeVine gallery. One, was a couple with their daughter totally knocked out in her stroller, it sort of made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Two, they had Tim Buskut and you can’t go wrong there, but they also had a husband wife team of Plankton that I totally totally loved. I realized (after doing a little research on them) that I had met them briefly when I went to see Douglas Little’s exhibit at Barney’s. They were performing as Lord Whimsy and wife, so I didn’t get to have a real conversation with them (we did talk about scuba diving which totally makes since they were originally going to be marine biologists), but I am totally impressed by their scope of work. The painted these great sea creatures on wood panels with postcards that were attached. I loved sort of seeing through the paint here and there to see the post cards. The slight texture behind gave a bit of depth to these hyper flat images.
I have been totally drawn to that idea. Painting of found paper and the like. Julie West has some great gecco prints on paper. I loved it in Damon Soule and Trish Grantham. Those images have been swirling around my mind for a while now and I wonder how it will play out.
The image above is a little teaser for my first ever trade. Should be making its way to Canada and Tiffany this week. What do you think of my robot logo?

...tricks?...

What do you do when you know you should be doing something? Something that you like, something that helps your brain, but you don't do it?
Are there tricks to tell your mind? Tricks to convince yourself to make it happen?
I love to swim and I just joined the pool near me at work, but dragging myself there is getting hard as it is getting colder and I hate myself when I don't go. But that is really just an excuse. My brain needs the swimming even more than my body. The energy I have is unfathomable. But then when I don't I start to slip into my world of honey. Where my world is a little cloudy and I move slowly. It is comfortable to be in the honey. I sort of hate myself for liking the honey.
On a good note I went to the post office and mailed tons of packages. Dad (my dad is reading this!) I finally, finally sent you that logo that you have been asking about for at least a year. I also got out my little guys to Plush Rush and a couple of people are getting the fabric I have listed on flickr!. Remember people it is free. I will send it to you and all you have to do is email me the piece (or pieces) you would like!!
Isn't that photo amazing, it is from the wedding I went to in October for my favoritest couple in the city of angels.

...another plush...

Stephen was built to work at the nature preserve and help study the pelicans. All his friends call him steve-o. (he doesn't always like that)

They heard about the nyc marathon and felt like they should get some fluids into their bodies before headed of to Ohio for Plush Rush. They are a little nervous because they haven't traveled outside the city, so the tea is also calming them down.
Also if you need any fabric to make stuff, or decorative pillowcases check out some stuff on flickr and I will send you your choices. It is free!

...up for grabs...

Every once in awhile we do a painting job for a company that does home furnishings and they clean out shop for each season. That leaves us with bags of pillowcases and other home stuff.
I figured there would be lot of you crafty ladies who could use the stuff I have either as it was made or purely as free fabric. Yes you read it right. This little group is up for grabs. Jus email me what you are interested in and I will mail it off to you. First come first serve. There are about 15 different pieces and I will try and take down the items as they are claimed. Enjoy! The photos are on flickr!
I was wondering around the city today and saw this hotel sign and wondered really who would want to stay there or even better really is that the subliminal way of advertising? (maybe not so subliminal)

...painting for friday #9...

So I feel like I am turning a corner in my painting. I think this one is a bit too rough, but definitely on the way to what I felt was missing. I can't believe I didn't think of using the little sculptures before. I am going to do a sculpture of last weeks painting, so I can work it out and try again.
I would love to get feedback. Thanks.

...bring your pet to blog #6...
Trixie was very interested in what was happening in HER bathroom, when I did my spt. But she was respectful of the space until I was done. Then she wanted to see what the hell was going on. I mean there were bubbles to be had. Bubbles and water. Love them together. So here is a post spt, which the Boy took. Right before she leaps up towards me and makes me flinch. Silly girl. Isn't Trixie so pretty though? Look at the great marking on her back and it includes her tail. I love that.

Bring your pet to blog was started by those lovely ladies over at p2p. I think that Johanna should do it. Tell us some stories of the beautiful and very very bad grandpa!

...a pink girl...
I was productive over the weekend. I made this new face and realized that I can use the face to help my paintings. I am so excited. (sometimes I surpise myself and not in a good way) I have a 3-d image of my girl. I can work out different positions and placement! I know that isn't terribly exciting but I am rather excited.

I am having a bit of trouble with the last bird bot, but I think I worked it out last night (it better start to behave). I was just too tired and frustrated to finish it up. I should be able to finish it this evening. I have to finish it this evening, what am I talking about. I need to get those little guys in the mail! Then I am going to try and do a bot a week. That should get me caught up with my list and then maybe I'll start selling them?
Thank you - thank you for that great response for my spt. Even, the Boy who reads this blog (but doesn't like to comment) made a comment. A comment that our fight was about who was cooler Lindsey Lohan or Hillary Duff! He had me laughing so hard I almost couldn't breathe. The Boy is always making me laugh - his goal is at least once a day - and he does!
Thank you - thank you.
