...book swap...

I was involved in a book swap organized by Amy at beautyjoyfood (who gives such great info on southern food - the history, the lore and it is done in these beautiful story entries!).
I was really nervous about participating because all of the people involved were food people (then there was extra pressure, because I noticed that there were thirteen people and I felt like the odd man out). So nervous in fact that I was the first to send my book.
I swapped with the very lucky Cara (whose blog is brand new!), whose was lucky because she got two book partners!
I was wracking my brain for something that I could give that no one else could. And then like a smack on the head I thought fat witch brownies, and a little painting. So I created 'the baker' for Cara and sent her one of my favorite books in the world! I talked about it here.
Cara sent me She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. I have been waiting to read it, because I have a couple plane flights in the next couple of weeks and I love to have a good book that I can just get lost in!
Here is a little photo of what I sent Cara:

sorry about the blurry photo - I tell you I was nervous!

...harry potter - check...

I read Harry Potter in one sitting. Well, I got up for snacks, soda and to use the loo. But otherwise I just spent the day on the couch reading The Half-Blood Prince. I am not going to say anything, for fear I would give hints. And to the Boy who is at work today, don't ask me a thing!! I mean it!

...ordinary life...

I am reading the most amazing book. "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. She is my new hero. The book is full of all these little gems of stories with rhyme and reason, but not really linear. It is formatted like an encyclopedia done alphabetically, and I am torn between devouring the book and trying to give myself these little illustrated stories of life as prizes for the day. Many of the stories have "see also", so you can keep reading, hence my problem. Her story under "Happiness" leads you to "Tuesday Night" then above that is "Travel" and that can lead you to "Other People" or "Returning from Journey"...SEE! Everything about the book is great, even the jacket cover is super clever and there is a reader's agreement which is hilarious. Amy is clever, so very very clever. (I am using her first name as if I know her, which I don't at all!) Around the time the book was published she was leaving books in the towns where she was having readings. (There is a little video on her website showing her leaving books in all these ingenious places.) It is such a cool thing to do, sweet and clever! I had day dreams where I found one of the books she left, but then I realized that I really didn't want to wait and hope that I might find one, so I went out and bought the book! I think it is going to be my gift of choice for awhile. Hope everyone doesn't mind.
