olive the friendly bird...

friendlybird.jpg

Olive is really unsure about living in the city. She tried to find a high roost in the studio. But it is just not the same as living with Alicia. I hope once I get her home she'll start to relax and enjoy the change of living in the city.

olivebird.jpg

And sorry to all you whip up people coming to see my robots. I have quite a few in different states of creation! You can see finished pieces here and here.

so many treats in the mail...

I have been ordering amazing ness around the internet lately and I got some packages last week. Firstly I ordered an amazing mod bird from lisa. Oh so lovely. It is smaller than I pictured in my mind and that makes it that much more enchanting and amazing.

brownmod.jpg

The Boy is getting jealous, but actually I got something for him. This gorgeous casting of a headstone from magpie molly. He has a thing for skulls that I am just coming around to honoring. Before it freaked my out a bit, now they intrigue me.

headstone.jpg

After some mail angst I received my trade with Amanda and snatched up a pair of those fantastic earrings she was knitting with wire. They are like wearing air - soft air. I am not quite sure if I am supposed to post a photo, which is good since my photo is crazy blurry.
Instead I have this photo of Trixie claiming the tissue paper. She is in love with it. Any chance she gets she'll roll around on the paper - demanding rubs on the paper, all around relaxing on the paper. She is particular that one.

tiny treats...

flowersfall.jpg

I finished my painting for friday yesterday and I wanted to post it because I am pretty happy with it. I am doing a more graphic version and submiting it to threadless. (I can win prizes and everything - more on that later)

I have been ordering amazing little things from around the internet:

these amazing felted acorns from jenn (her new site is up and running!)

acorns.jpg

and this sweet and tiny little charm from another jenny

queenthings.jpg

this is making its way as a birthday present, and I have already ordered another piece!

Oh and my little blog is one years old today.

...tuesdays on Tuesday...

supplies.jpg

I totally didn't plan on writing about tuesdays on Tuesday.
Serendipity I guess.

I have been exploring some options for tuesdays - found myself a couple of guinea pigs and thinking of taking it in a different way...more on that later, but for now just a tease of a photo.

...painting for friday #14...

arch.jpg
(this was an accidental collaboration with Johanna - she left some partial canvas behind and I painted this lady over it.)

The paintings for friday are back.
I know that you have missed them terribly.
I took some time off for the holidays, not like Lisa who has been amazing at getting her drawing-a-day's done. They are so lovely if you haven't seen them yet. After I took time off, I changed positions at work, got slammed with Fashion Week and tried to sew my little hands out for the Love4Sale event last weekend.
Which couldn't have been a better introduction to fairs. The women that surrounded me where amazing.

Across from me was Jane (one of my trade friends) and Karla of Slope Suds. Delicious products. Really tasty items.
On my right was two wonderful ladies - Alice & Kristin- with jewelry (only Kristin has a website that is up).
On my left was the lovely Kristen Aronsson.
Her shoes.
Amazing.
Plus she had these amazing bags that felt like butter.
And the equally lovely Angie with her simple and bold jewelry, whom I traded with but she doesn't have a website. (hopefully yet)

I was lucky enough to make a couple of trades.
I LOVE trades.
I am able to get things for myself that I would normally never buy.
I would love, but not ever allow myself to buy.
Firstly I got an amazing skirt from Kathy the brains behind the event. Her son picked out one of the inside out penguins and I got this lovely skirt.

skirt.jpg

People started showing up late in the afternoon and the wonderfuly talented Aurora put me into the black. What a truely amazing and talented countess.
Then as the sale winded down (it never really winded up - threat of a blizzard can do that).
The trades started to fly. And I snapped up two more.
First was with the hilarious Jane of Foxy & Winston. She got one of the sad-eyed little penguins (she named him Percival) and I got some great notecards. Lovely lovely.

foxycards.jpg

Then I traded with Angie a beautiful coral necklace from her new line.

coralneck.jpg

Oh goodness. She doesn't have a website but I think she'll be at Renegade in Brooklyn this year. Angie brought home Gordon & Sid (see the previous post).

I have quite a few left and wondered if people were interested in buying them. I'll put up photos up soon. Send me an email if you'd like to be notified when that happens. wendyATgreengirlartDOTcom.
Have a great weekend.

...cheers...

cheerstrix.jpg

This card is even more perfect since last night WAS a night of cheers.

Drinking and laughing.
Drinks traveling around the table, tasting, ohhing, and ahhing over delicious martinis that didn't taste at all like they had any alcohol, which was a bad thing this morning.
Last night it was just delicious.
Cake-tails & pie-tinis. Drinks with alcohol that taste like cake and pie?!
Delicious and dangerous.

...abby-normal...

abby.jpg

It was a fun mail time for me. I ordered some of abby normal's new designs. I love Lisa's stuff.
I bought a bag, I love how her bags have lining (you can kind of see the gingham coming through the bag in the photo).
I bought a t-shirt and some of her holiday cards. Love those and the work that went into making them is crazy!!
She is a mighty talented lady and because she is my friend I got a couple of prizes! Some gum that smells so delicious I almost can't stand it. A couple of her pins - I am an evildoer!!

Lisa has great little details, like a cloud cut out on her business card and the envelope of her note card.
Sweet and lovely.
Thank you thank you!!

abbypack.jpg

I love her beautiful personal note cards made by mav! If you look close you can see the green lisa shinning through.
Can't wait to get some of my own.
Love the ribbon that my little package was wrapped in. Green of course.

...warm little hat and a bag of goodies...

trade.jpg

I did a trade with the talented Tiffany. I made her Harvey and she made me a beautiful winter hat.

tiffanyhat.jpg

Look how perfect the hat matches the painting behind me. I couldn't have gotten better colors if I picked them myself!! She also went to a Japanese dollar store before she mailed off my package, so I got a million great treats. Well not a million, but such perfect things. An new journal (I am three pages away from finishing my current one), and a brush pen (love brush pens). Eyes for robots (I already have plans for a pair) a cute little key chain and candy. That is gone. LOve anything chocolate and chocolate with maple syrup, heaven. And some pretty origami paper. She didn't forget Trixie who got fun springs that she wanted to get into right away. Look at her. It is like she knows they are for her!

trixtoy.jpg

I have some big news. The Boy finally got this big gig that was supposed to happen ages ago. He did the sound design on a video game trailer months ago (in time for some fancy conference) and there was talk at the time they'd get hired to do the full game. Then the talk got more plausible. Then the talk turned into dates. The original date was at the beginning of October. Then near the end of October. Then the beginning of November. Then the end of November and just when I thought that would go on for ages - wham it happened. On Thanksgiving. So much to be thankful for (except that little part where he had to work on thanksgiving - those brits are still a little angry about the tea party?) No really the company creating the game is in England. Good thing I can make a mean mashed potatoes. We had a really delicious time, because the Boy is a fabulous cook. We did the happy dance and busted out the champagne (after he was done for the day because drinking changes your ability to hear correctly).

...lovely bookswap...

alishatrade.jpg

I did a bookswap hosted by Cara. My partner was the amazingly big hearted Alisha. I am lucky to have met these two lovely ladies through the internet. They are fabulous women.

Our assignment was kids books and I got some Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. Which is wonderful and surprising since I never read any of the books or even heard of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle. I can't wait to tuck into the books since I got three!! So exciting.
In my box I also got some moonpies that are already open and Creole seasoning in a h u g e shaker. The Boy's eyes almost popped out. He loves any sort of 'themed' seasoning. Thank you thank you!!

...frozen custard-check...

Ok so this wasn't on my list, but Johanna reminded me that eating sugary stuff in the city can be equally inspiring.
I had a delicious chocolate frozen custard!
I didn't even know about frozen custard. It is a creamy and smooth. A much much better version of frozen yogurt. Actually frozen yogurt has NOTHING on frozen custard.
I got it from this new little place called the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park, right near work and my train station. Very Dangerous!

Inspired by my constant drooling over him for a couple of months now and finding her the other night from creature comforts, she has super cute felt tea bags. I started sculpting little heads. But I think I am going to start again with more of a story. I have a bunch of sad little stories in my head. I really love Monica's bittersweet story of Luna and the Stellar Cat!

...a beastly long blog of renegade treats...

Here are all my Renegrade Craft Fair treats. As I was taking pictures I realized how much I bought. Many things for me and not much for anyone else.

This skirt I have been drooling over for about two years and I couldn't be more happy about it! Jesse from Amet and Sasha makes amazing things.
skirtback.jpg
Look at this beautiful little extra with the contrast stitching!!
skirtdetail.jpg

I got some super cute shirts from Alison Rose. Her shop is down right now, because she has been to quite a few craft shows. You can check out her journal while you wait for them to come back.
This one I got for the Boy.
boyshirt.jpg
This one I think is going to be a gift for a birthday in the fall.
carshirt.jpg

These beautiful silk screen cards that are made by Julie are fantastic. The are bold and colorful, but still really simple. Love them!! Her site etui is excellent.
etui.jpg

Heidi from My Paper Crane was super cute with her awesome pink hair. I was very excited to buy things from her. She is famous, at least for me that is!! The block is for me, I LOOVE the tree girl. And the cupcake is for a way past due birthday present.
papercrane.jpg

I have to say I am really really in love with my new necklace. And I found this amazing one from Sprout. All of her things are amazing, but I fell in love with the little owl. Just splendid.
sproutowl.jpg

(You are so close to the end. - don't give up now!)
I wasn't sure that I would like the Damned Dollies, but as soon as I passed the table I knew differently. These dolls have tons of spunk and sass loaded into there little faces. Plus this girl is green! No question!
damndoll.jpg

I got a great journal from If'n Books. I love the little birds on the back sitting in the tree. I got mine with graph paper. Like math class in grade school.
ifnbook.jpg

And last but certainly not least Stella at momomoggie. I got this wonderful print.
birdscarf.gif
And one of her really cute felt patches. I can't seem to find it at the moment, but trust me it is sweet. Johanna and I camped out by a tree near her table a couple of times because it was so crazy hot. I mean really crazy hot. Some people were melting. Well thanks for making it through this post, I know it was long. But all of the people at the fair had amazing things. I hope to be there as a vendor next year!!

...lucky and inspired...

I feel like the luckiest girl around. I totally splurged and had to dip into my renegade craft fair funds, but I not only bought one of tamar’s great birds I emailed her how much I loved the forest girl and she had one. So I have two now!!

Love, love, looove them. It didn’t really dawn on me that I could indeed get one, until Martha over at naïve kitting got one of the lovely penguins! I live in New York, but it took someone visiting to realize that they are indeed real! I met Tamar yesterday afternoon and she gave me Lily (named by one of her co-workers). She is really great and said she is excited because she has been getting tons of requests (from all of us internet folk)!!

They are really really beautiful. I am totally in love. Plus it is inspiring my new robots. I have one more in the works for the Schmancy event, originally her name way May (trying to make it for month of softies, to no avail), but she has become a very sassy Maude.
maudeflat.jpg
I am sort of in love with her. Maude has some little petals coming out of her head, and I have a leaf guy all drawn out (inspired by Lily and a beautiful bag I saw on the Subway on my way to work in the morning). I have tons of ideas to incorporate more earth into the robots. Sort of a nature meets machine, through felt. My brain is really excited about the whole thing!!

A little background on the robots themselves. I am working without a pattern and everything is hand sewn. No really, all by hand. It is a great way to keep my hands occupied when I watch smutty television, which is about whenever I can. I grew up as an only child latchkey kid, so I would turn on the TV as soon as I got home (of course I did my homework with the TV on I mean off?! –pah), so I am sort of addicted to it. But the hand sewing is great because it is silent!! (Perfect for not missing any of Seth’s sly comebacks or Lorelai and Rory super quick and informed banter.)

KC is here and she is not melting!! Little does she know what it was like the day before she came into town!

...in love with dessert...

Can you be in love with a dessert? I don't know but I am totally smitten with sticky toffee pudding. I was really good and I only gave the Boy and I two smallish pieces. (which actually means I will have more for later!) We don't really have dishes - we got rid of a bunch when we moved. Because of the dish issue I made a funky tin foil to heat the heaven. I totally drizzled the toffee topping over our pieces. As soon as I pulled it out I knew in my heart of hearts that no other dessert would be able to match the love I now feel for sticky toffee pudding. It just looked warm and delicious. The sauce had darkened and soaked into the pudding part. The first bite was heaven. Really and truly heaven. I almost couldn't stand it.

I just went on the website again and there are a couple of stores in the city, I don't even have to mail away for my new fix. I'll have to practice some major self-control and go to way more yoga classes. Maybe even do some morning runs.

I am looking forward to the Renegade Craft Fair. I have been checking out the vendors and figuring out all the things I want to buy. (There is really too much and I have only looked at a portion of the websites!) I can't wait. It will be a belated birthday present to myself.

...oh my sweetness...

A little while ago loobylu had some computer problems and then ate sticky toffee pudding. It wasn't the main theme of the entry, but I just sort of reacted to it. I have never had that dessert. But I am never one to not give something a try - especially if it is sweet! I am a major dessert fiend-and I found the English Pudding Company after a search on the web.
Needless to say I ordered a pudding AND it came TODAY. We put it in the freezer because my mom is coming to visit this weekend and I figured that we would pull it out and have it we she was here. Plus the Boy wouldn't let me just toss it in the oven and skip dinner. Drats!
The Boy and I were talking the other day and I was flabbergasted to find out that he would prefer a meal to dessert. What?!
I love that we still don't know everything about one another. But still, I was understandably shocked. Maybe I'll order another one next week when he is recording these guys. Ideas, Ideas.

***UPDATE*** The Boy wants some of the dessert...going to have the sticky toffee pudding...I can't wait!***

Here is some more photos from Coney Island.
